Watercolor-Choice

IMG_4670.jpg

For this piece I chose to base it off of a photo I took when I visited an island in Mexico called, Isla Mujeres. In the picture, there was just an empty space between the yellow building and the tree so I decided to add a bench into the area. I really like how I painted the tree and added the texture to it. It made it look more realistic and three-dimensional. I also really like the value of the yellow building and how it starts darker at the bottom and lightens to indicate where the sun hits and the shadows. As for the darker blue area behind the bench, I tried to create a sense of space there by using darker values of the blue to make it seem like it goes further back. I incorporated pattern into this piece through the awning because it is a repetition of yellow and white stripes. Lastly, I think that the tree also created emphasis because immediately my eyes are drawn to the violet flowers when I look at it.
